Mothers’ Union is a Christian organisation that has been supporting families worldwide for over 140 years and was founded by Mary Sumner in 1876 in her local parish.  It has grown into an international charity with over 4 million members in 84 countries.

As a Christian membership charity, we demonstrate our faith in action. This happens as we work towards stopping poverty, inequality and injustice. Members work at grassroots level around the world. They bring hope and practical support to millions of people every year through parenting, literacy and community development programmes.

An example of MU work is the literacy programme which helps to train community volunteers as literacy facilitators, who are then equipped to run literacy circles in their own community

To find out more, please visit the Mothers' Union website https://www.mothersunion.org or if you are interested in joining us, contact the current co-leaders at Christ Church Purley who are Anne Scoones and Fran King or email mothersunionpurley@gmail.com

At Christ Church Purley we organise regular fundraising events, such as a sing-along Film Night, Easter and Advent family events, a Summer tea party, a sponsored swim, a local English literacy project and regular meetings to discuss significant family issues and pray together.  We also  have special guest speakers.

Our fundraising supports the various Mothers' Union campaigns such as:
Away From It All (AFIA) which is a holiday scheme, primarily funded by members, to give the opportunity of a break to those who are experiencing stress in their family life.

A quarterly newsletter keeps members up-to-date with wider Diocese news, as well as local and branch events.
